27.05.2007 Whistles Picks Pod1

Boutique fashion retailer, Whistles, has appointed Pod1 to supply front-end design and production for a new website which will be Whistles' first foray into e-commerce.

The ‘jewel in the crown' of the Mosaic fashion group, Whistles was founded in 1976 by husband and wife team Richard and Lucille Lewin, and grew to some 40 outlets before being acquired by Karen Millen in 2002. Although growth has been purposefully controlled to protect the exclusivity of the brand, it has doubled in size in the last 4 years.

The stores are a destination not just for the Whistles label, but also for designer fashions from the likes of ‘Antik Batik' and ‘Michael Stars'.

Pod1 will draw inspiration from the recently refurbished flagship store in St Christopher's Place to reflect the elegance, femininity and eclectic atmosphere that is found in-shop.

Amanda Burrows, Brand Director at Whistles said, “We are excited to be working with Pod1 on what is a very major step into the future. Pod1 has shown a great understanding of Whistles’ 30 year heritage whilst still appreciating the need for modernity and innovation. We are delighted that Pod1 have taken inspiration from our new store design in St Christophers Place giving the web design the feel of walking into a Whistles store. Personal service is a huge part of the Whistles ethos and we believe that what Pod1 are designing will offer a piece of this to our online customers.

Pod1 will work alongside Fresca, the established back-end partner for Mosaic, who will oversee technical development. The site is due to launch in Early October 2007.
